Well Woman Clinic

Gut health

Calm your gut. Lift your energy and mood.

What it is

Your gut digests food, houses trillions of microbes, holds much of your immune system and talks directly to your brain through the vagus nerve.

Gut problems such as IBS are more common in women, and hormones play a part: many women notice symptoms change across their cycle or around menopause.

Is this you?

  • Bloating, especially as the day goes on
  • Constipation, loose stools, or both
  • Reactions to certain foods
  • Gut symptoms that change with your cycle
  • Brain fog or low mood alongside gut symptoms

Common root causes

We look at all three corners of the body–mind–brain triangle.

Body

An imbalance in gut bacteria, low stomach acid or digestive enzymes, food intolerances, coeliac disease and hormonal shifts across the cycle.

Mind

Stress and anxiety, which change how the gut moves and how sensitive it feels.

Brain

Weaker signalling from the brain to the gut through the vagus nerve.

How we assess it

A detailed gut and cycle history, a symptom profile, and targeted stool and blood tests where they will change the plan.

Available in clinic in Llandudno, or remotely by video with home or partner-site blood tests.

Your plan

After your Women's Health Assessment, you receive a personal plan with nutrition, lifestyle and targeted support, regular check-ins, and a retest so you can see what has changed.

About the assessment

Bloating that is persistent, especially if you are over 50, should be checked by your GP. So should blood in your stool, unexplained weight loss or a lasting change in bowel habit.

Take the gut health symptom profile

A short online questionnaire that maps your symptoms and shows whether they are worth investigating. It takes about 5 minutes.

Key lab tests

The tests most often useful for gut health. Every test includes a practitioner review of your results.

Comprehensive stool analysis

What it measures
Gut bacteria, digestion, inflammation and infection markers.
Why it matters
Shows what is happening inside the gut, rather than guessing.

Coeliac screen

What it measures
Antibodies linked to coeliac disease (tTG-IgA with total IgA).
Why it matters
Coeliac disease is common in women and often missed. It must be tested while you are still eating gluten.

Faecal calprotectin

What it measures
A marker of inflammation in the bowel.
Why it matters
Helps tell inflammatory bowel conditions apart from other gut problems.
